Remembering With Gratitude: Memorial Day at The Bedford Inn
At The Bedford Inn, nestled in the quiet charm of our historic village, Memorial Day brings a special kind of stillness. A moment to breathe. A moment to remember. A moment to honor those who gave everything so we might live in peace.
Our Bed & Breakfast here in Cape May has always carried a deep respect for tradition. Many of our guests remember war-time years, handwritten letters, and loved ones in uniform. You carry those stories in your hearts. Memorial Day is for you—and for them. For the brave souls who gave up their tomorrows so we could have ours.
Local Tributes and Memorial Events In Cape May
This Memorial Day, our town gathers with purpose and pride. Parades and ceremonies will be held throughout the area to honor those who served and sacrificed.
Cape May’s Memorial Day Remembrance Ceremony - On Monday, May 26, 2025, at 11:00 AM, the City of Cape May will host its annual Memorial Day Remembrance Ceremony at Soldiers and Sailors Park, located at Columbia Avenue and Gurney Street. This solemn event brings together residents and visitors to pay tribute to those who have served and sacrificed. Following the ceremony, a poignant flower boat launch will take place on the beach in front of Convention Hall, symbolizing our collective gratitude and remembrance.
Musical Tribute by the Atlantic Brass Band - On Sunday, May 25, 2025, at 7:00 PM, the Atlantic Brass Band will perform a free concert at Rotary Park, located at 400-498 Lafayette Street. This performance, part of the Cape May Music Festival, will feature a selection of rousing American music, providing a stirring tribute to our nation’s heroes. Guests are encouraged to bring a chair or blanket to enjoy this evening of patriotic melodies under the stars.
Sunset Beach Flag Ceremony - A cherished tradition in Cape May is the daily flag-lowering ceremony at Sunset Beach, which begins on Saturday, May 24, at 7:00 pm Memorial Day weekend and continues through the summer. Each evening, a flag that once draped the casket of a veteran is lowered as “Taps” plays, offering a moment of reflection and honor. This touching ceremony has been a part of Cape May’s heritage since 1973 and serves as a powerful reminder of the sacrifices made for our freedom.
Middle Township Parade - Middle Township will honor Memorial Day with its annual parade and ceremony on Monday, May 26, 2025, beginning at 10:00 AM. The parade lineup starts at 9:00 AM at Memorial Field on Pacific Avenue. The route proceeds north on Boyd Street, turns left onto Mechanic Street, then left onto Dias Creek Road, concluding at American Legion Post 198, where a commemorative ceremony will follow.
Each event is a time to reflect. A time to join hands with neighbors. A time to remember that freedom has always come at a great cost.
Reflection and Remembrance at the Inn
After the parades, we invite you to return to the peaceful comfort of The Bedford Inn. Our front porch will be set with light refreshments and soft music. American flags will decorate the garden beds in quiet tribute. Guests are welcome to pause, reflect, and share stories if they wish.
There is no schedule. No rush. Just space for remembrance and gratitude.
Whether you’re traveling with family or enjoying a peaceful getaway, we hope this Memorial Day offers a meaningful pause—a moment to reconnect with history, community, and each other.
