Cape May Jazz Festival
Founded in 1993, the twice-annual Cape May Jazz Festival has grown from attendance numbers of 300 to over 8,000 and become one of the biggest, most highly regarded and longest-running jazz festivals in New Jersey. It is a memorable experience both for attendees, who get to enjoy an entertaining variety of Jazz music; and musicians, local and world-known, who thrive off the energy and interaction with the crowds. Covers, original songs and extended jam sessions can all be found.
Special events during the festival include a free family concert and workshops about different areas of jazz music: guitar, voice, improvisation, percussion and saxophone. Many of the bands you can see will also have their albums available for purchase and signing. All events are within walking distance; a courtesy jazz shuttle—which can also be an opportunity to meet other jazz fans!—will transport festival-goers between workshops and venues.
Performers at past festivals include Ahmad Jamal, Oscar Brown Jr., Freddie Cole, Herbie Mann, Pat Martino, Terence Blanchard and Kevin Eubanks, bandleader for The Tonight Show, as well as a selection of local talent. The festival has also been awarded the People’s Choice Award for Favorite Music Festival in New Jersey by Discover Jersey Arts.
